W.O.W. Project

26 Mott Street, New York, NY
Soft-Firm is excited to announce an ongoing collaboration with arts non-profit W.O.W. Project in their vision for 26 Mott Street.

The ground floor is home to porcelain shop Wing On Wo & Co, the oldest continuously operating store in Manhattan’s Chinatown spanning a legacy of five generations with housing above.

The cellar is home to W.O.W. Project, a women, queer, and trans-led community initiative founded by 5th generation owner of Wing On Wo & Co, Mei Lum.

Soft-Firm’s cellar renovation envisions a flexible gathering space, workshop, and ceramics studio for artists and activists in the Chinatown community, and anticipates how this phase of adaptive reuse can lay the groundwork for the client’s long-term vision of 26 Mott Street as a community anchor including artist lofts and a rooftop medicinal garden: a new iteration of intergenerational stewardship focused on sustainability and collectivity in the heart of the Chinatown.
